Marjorie Thatcher
Wednesday, April 21, 2010
7 pm Alia Hall

All children under seven years of age draw the same motifs, regardless of their nationality. Why is this? What do these represent? These archetypal symbols are a key to understanding the development of the child, and will be illustrated by examples from children’s drawings.

An Introduction to Wet Method Watercolor Painting

Monday, March 15
7 pm - 8:30 pm

Come and enjoy an evening of exploring the vibrant colors of Wet-on-Wet Watercolor Painting. Janet Lia will introduce the painting method used in the Waldorf Schools by giving a brief overview of how the painting curriculum develops as the children in the grade school grow. Then parents will be guided through a simple painting composition that will give a flavor of the possibilities that this wonderful, healing medium offers.
Absolutely no artistic skill or experience is needed and everyone will come away with a beautiful painting.

Janet Lia is a credentialed Waldorf teacher and Washington State teacher (K-12), with endorsements in Visual Arts, Social Science, and Agriculture. Additionally, Janet has completed training for Fine Arts and Bio-Dynamic Agriculture. With over 20 years teaching experience, Janet has taught a wide range of ages in public and Waldorf schools. The Four Soul Temperaments
in Education

with Joseph Doucette

May 13, 2010
7pm

What are the essential characteristics of the four soul temperaments?  How can we recognize them in our children and ourselves?  As teachers and parents, how can we use this knowledge to help us raise and educate children toward a healthy, balanced life?

Come to an engaging evening with Joseph Doucette to begin exploring these questions.  You’ll go home with greater insight about the children in your care and with practical tips on how to meet their inherent developmental needs.

Joseph has experienced the full range of school age children being a father of two teenage sons, a former high school math and science teacher, and having taught grades one through eight at the Whatcom Hills Waldorf School.  Joseph is currently teaching 4th Grade.
