Tuition Reduction

We offer reduced tuition to families who demonstrate need through an independent evaluation. Tuition may be reduced to a maximum of 40%. The program is intended to assist parents and their children who without such help would not have the opportunity to attend the school and enjoy the benefits of a Waldorf education. There are no work exchange arrangements.
Tuition Reduction up to 40% is offered after determining the the resources of the parents are insufficient to meet the student's total tuition expenses. Parents are expected to contribute according to their means, taking into account total income, assets, number of dependents and other appropriate information. In order to assure objectivity, fairness and confidentiality, a standard approach has been adopted by Whatcom Hills Waldorf School to determine a family's need. We use the financial needs evaluation process of Tuition Aid Data Services (TADS). It is used by hundreds of independent schools across the country including a great number of Waldorf schools like our own.
Should you wish to apply for Tuition Reduction, we encourage families to apply early. Returning families will be offered the application materials each winter for the following year with an opportunity to apply promptly for priority consideration. There is a $29.00 fee, paid by the applicant, for each application submitted for evaluation. If applying after April there is usually an additional $10.00 added on as a late fee for current families. If you are a new familiy applying you will be reimbursed $10.00. We are confident that this method of ascertaining the needs of our families enhances our ability to provide tuition reduction to benefit the greatest number of our students and make Waldorf education increasingly available to families in Whatcom County. If you have further questions please contact us.

Additional Expenses
Supply Fee
The supply fee covers materials and supplies, a subscription to Renewal (a bi-yearly magazine about Waldorf Education), and dues for the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America. The supply fees are due upon enrollment and are non-refundable.
Field Trip Fee
Classes take field trips regularly throughout the year. The grade school students, particularly in grades 4-8, participate in annual gatherings with other Waldorf School students from the Puget Sound area and British Columbia. These are usually multi-day trips requiring registration and travel expenses. The class teacher will provide the exact amounts. (Field trips will be paid for through these fees and will be billed as needed during the year.)
In various grades, additional expenses can be expected for the music program. Used flutes are often available at a reduced price from other families. The class gifting expense is a way in which the Parent Council organizes funds for supporting members of the class parent body as well as for the gifting teacher. You can expect this contribution request during one of the first Parent Evenings.
