FUN FOR THE YOUNG

Summer Camp 2018

Ages 4 and up to incoming 2nd graders

Monday – Thursday
10 AM – 3 PM
(optional extended hours 9 AM – 10 AM for $10/day)

WEEK 1: July 23 – July 26

WEEK 2: July 30 – August 2

WEEK 3: August 6 – August 9

This summer your young child can enjoy a camp program suited particularly to his or her needs.  The program is held outdoors in the wonderful kindergarten play yard at Whatcom Hills Waldorf School.

Components of the day include:

  • circle time & games 
  • simple, picnic style snack
  • outdoor play time
  • age appropriate arts and crafts
  • lunch time (indoors)
  • water play time
  • popsicle time

The program is led by Adrienne Doucette, a certified Waldorf teacher with over 20 years of experience. Sign up for one, two or all three weeks.

2018 SUMMER GARDENING CAMPS AT WHWS

Ages 8-12

Monday – Thursday
10 AM – 3 PM
(optional early start at 9am with Adrienne Doucette)

August 6 – August 10
This summer program is held in the garden at the Whatcom Hills Waldorf School with some exploration of nearby parks and forests. Kids will learn how to harvest and use plants to make fun products that will nourish their bodies inside and out. Projects will include herbal potions, insect repellent, jam, pesto, and more.
Components of the day include:

  • Morning circle time and stretching
  • Planting, harvesting, and cooking from the garden
  • Outdoor exploration and play time
  • Swimming at Lake Whatcom with one bus trip to a swimming hole at Whatcom Falls Park
  • Preparation of herbal and food concoctions to take home

 

This camp is led by Heather Tiszai, the gardening teacher at Whatcom Hills Waldorf School. Simple, organic snacks will be provided. Participants will bring their own lunch.
$265/week: This includes all supplies so that each participant may take their quality creations home to share with family and friends.

NATURE CAMP 2018

Ages 4-10

Monday – Thursday
WHWS Nature Camp takes place in local parks exploring marine or forest habitats.
10 AM – 3 PM

 

Sea Creatures (Marine Park):

June 25-28

July 9-12

July 23-26

Forest Friends (Whatcom Falls Park/Lake Padden):

July 16-20

Aug 13-16

 

Campers spend 100% of their experience outdoors in local parks with nature as a palette for play, exploration and projects. We
model safety, care for others, and respect while nurturing your child’s imagination and socio-emotional skills as they develop a wonder-full relationship with nature and enjoy time playing outdoors with friends.

Components of the day include:

  • Weekly place-based nature theme
  • Direct teaching, child-led exploration and free play
  • Quiet time for stories, drawing or handwork
  • Simple, process oriented arts and crafts projects

 

This program is led by Lindsay Cain and Holly Roger. Ms Lindsay is a WHWS parent and a certified Early Childhood Waldorf
educator. She works as the assistant teacher in the Thimbleberry Kindergarten and leads the afternoon Sunflower Kindergarten
program. Holly has 13+ years of Waldorf parenting experience and over 9 years working professionally within the WHWS community in educator and admin roles. She’s been a nature educator for 25 years, and is a co-founder of Wild Whatcom.Group size is limited, so sign up quickly!
 
$150-185/week, sliding scale and sibling discount.

Summer Camps 2018

2 Summer Camps, 2 Day Camps and Day Sailing Adventures with Miss Joanna, WHWS Earlycare provider

4 day camps: Ages 5-12. $225/wk for each camp includes all supplies.
1 day camp: Ages 5-12 $60/camp or $110/both days
Sailing Adventures: Ages 10-16 (Family groups welcomed) $100/day per person


Silk Painting & Garden Camp ~ Silk Flag Making and Garden activities
June 18-21st Monday-Thursday 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Min enrollment:4
(Optional extended hours 9 AM – 10 AM for $10/day)

 

Boat Building & Water Play ~ Boat Building and Launching
July 2-5 Monday-Thursday 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Min enrollment:4
(Optional extended hours 9 AM – 10 AM for $10/day)

 

Both Camps Include:

  • Journal Making and Keeping
  • Organic Snacks and home made fruit popsicles
  • Outdoor exploration and play time
  • Swimming/water play at Lake Whatcom
  • Harvesting & Cooking from the Garden


Squalicum Harbor Field Day Trips (2)
June 25th & June 26th 10 a.m.-3 p.m. $60/day or $110 for both
Min enrollment:4 ~ Max enrollment:6

 

  • Meet at Squalicum Harbor
  • Walk to Marine Interpretive Center
  • Visit the harbormaster’s office to borrow children’s life vests as needed
  • Walk to “Tomten”, our 38’ sailboat, for healthy snacks & fun learning activities (boat will not leave the dock)
  • Walk to Zuanich Park. Picnic lunch, play & games. Harbor exploration on the way
  • End at Zuanich at 3 p.m.

 

Sailing Adventures ~ Ages 10-16
(Family groups welcomed) Min/ Max enrollment 4. $100/day per person

 

Enjoy a full day out on Tomten, a 38’ Island Packet Sailboat. Sail to Lummi Island, enjoy beach time & lunch, take the wheel, trim sails, learn knots. Sail Dates will be on a Saturday or Sunday ~ dates tbd based on interest.

 

Miss Joanna is the Earlycare Provider at WHWS, a certified Life guard & Wilderness First Responder & a seasoned sailor.

 

Please register early as at least 4 children needed to proceed with the camps/field trips.
